All I can say is beautiful food and exceptional service, been here twice now once as a group for our staff party and once as a couple for valentines both... read more experiences were truly enjoyable. Both times Andrei looked after us and did an amazing job.

May 9, 2019We had a family dinner here on Saturday,.Always loved the grapevine when visiting Kilkenny but tbh we were a bit disappointed this time.we had looked it up on the Web... read more and early bird was advertised till 6.30pm everyday apart from bank holidays,so we booked a 6pm table as we were with kids. Arrived a few mins early, menus were given out,no early bird !!!so I asked for it and was told early bird finishes at 6pm???I said on their Web page it's says 6.30pm and the answer was "oh yeah sorry we need to change that.I have to say I thought that was very poor customer service .Just to make other customers aware of this

My wife and I dined here recently and can say without a shadow of doubt it was one of the best dining experiences we've had. The ambience, service, quality, quantity... read more and cost of food was exceptional. Too many choices !!! I can recommend the Surf & Turf & the Lamb Cutlets but you won't be disappointed no matter what you choose. Will definitely dine here again when back in Kilkenny.

October 5, 2020We dined in this establishment tonight after hearing the food was good, but we weren’t impressed by the service. Upon receiving our menus, we were told twice that our table... read more was needed back by 10pm despite the govt rule being 105 mind per sitting. We felt from the get go that the staff were rushing us to order, for example while choosing our wine the waitress stood over our table and gave us little or no time to decide, we felt we were under pressure to choose a wine as a result of this. We ordered a very substantial meal of 7 different tapas plates, we received the plates approx 10-12 mins after ordering which was great, however the staff preceded to come over to our table and asked if we were okay and if we needed anything, but it wasn’t just one person it was 3 different staff members every 4-5 mins, we could not enjoy our meal, we felt pressurised to finish very quickly, we also felt that they were monitoring the pace that were were eating our dishes. I appreciate attentive staff however when you tell a staff member the food is good, I don’t need anything else to later be interrupted again by another staff member gets a bit tiresome, it was if the staff did not communicate with one another or else there was another staff member telling the staff to try and take our plates. I could see another couple beside us also getting irritated by the staff. We were never going to outstay the 105 minute period, but for the 105 minutes we were there we could not relax and did not enjoy our food. I will not be returning. The food was great but it’s not worth the experience. It felt like a conveyor belt, the minute you sat down they wanted to get you out. I appreciate a staff member asking you if you are okay and whether you need anything once or twice but to persistently keep coming over and trying to clear our table is not okay. We dined in a nearby Italian the previous night and the service was outstanding and all within 105 minutes!

February 25, 2020We were looking forward to eating here as we both love tapas. There is an early bird menu which represents very good value for money and we ordered this. However... read more the food came very quickly, almost too quickly! The tapas were lukewarm and we were particularly disappointed with the chorizo which was overcooked. The waiter who was also front of house was quite rude, not a bit friendly. We were almost putting him out when we asked him something. We will not be returning.

June 2, 2019After traveling around Ireland for a while you do get a little tired of the standard pub fare so this was “good different”!
Pretty much what you would expect... read more of Spanish / Mediterranean style Cuisine and good quality. There are quite a few options on the menu including a good selection of wines. Service was also friendly and attentive.703grahamr

October 31, 2021This excellent restaurant serves tasty Spanish tapas including one of my favourites Patas Bravas and has a great atmosphere. Prices are reasonable, and crucially it is one of the few... read more restaurants that stays open after 9:30pm, which seems to be the cut off point for most kitchens in Kilkenny. For me, the is rather irritating as I prefer to eat later in the evening. Fortunately The Grapevine came to my rescue on a couple of occasions, (thank you guys!) Highly recommended!

Booked a table for 2 on a Friday night for 8.30pm. Told on arrival due to government restrictions could only stay 1.5 hours, very understandable.
When we ordered however all... read more our 5 tapas came out together, not how tapas is supposed to be served and some dishes were then cold by the time we got to them. I do not know is this a new practice since Covid 19 or just poor service/understanding of tapas.
We then looked for desserts at 9.30pm and were told the kitchen was closed. We had not been told this prior to or post booking and opening hours are stated until 11pm on a Friday.
The staff were lovely and very attentive but I feel in this current climate telling customers they can not have dessert at 9.30pm when opening hours are advertised until 11pm is not doing the business any favours, and unfortunately this is the reason I won’t be returning and will giving my money to places who are really trying hard to stay open instead.WeekendsLover
July 18, 2020That was embarrassing - well... It was an entertaining experience I suppose
Service: As we arrived, we were met with a smiling waiter, lovely. Then showed to our table or should I... read more say pointed in a "sit here manner" maybe I'm just been petty now but very unwelcoming after a first initial smile. Sat down in a lovely table for 2 just on the left beside a table of 4 and a table of 8 I'm sure it was? Received our menus and tap water, not informed of house specials or offered sparkling water (not that we would have got it anyway for €6 but you know... Service) I was wrong with how I poured our water, I poured it into the wine glasses instead of the water glasses. Ops. What I didn't expect was the little dance our waiter did (halarious to watch) as he stared in disgust at my mistake saying "I guess I'll take... theeessseee... glasses then" with his body language to express just how displeased he was as a result of my mistake. I apologized for my mistake which was met in an eye roll. Fair enough I understand the pain of polishing wine glasses that were not needed to used however... These are embossed wine glasses?? Very similar to a fancy whiskey glass. Very minimal polishing needed for these type of glasses. If you don't want mistakes like this, a simple half glass pour for each Customer as they are presented their water saves the bother of needing to put on the drama show. Our table was not checked on for more drinks or water. Our food was checked on... For the last 2 bites of prawns... Not the usual 3 bite rule (or somewhere around that time) into dining to ensure everything is fine but it was checked at least? Sassy pants sticks out however, bringing everything else to attention which to be fair wouldn't have been an issue.
Atmosphere: Nice decor, I didn't pay to much attention to be fair I was more focused on spending my evening here with my partner. What I did notice however is it was so noisy, I couldn't hear my partner at times and we felt as if we had to shout at each other. I understand a restaurant cant be held accountable for the people there at the time of dining but this is where table planning comes into effect. Noone in our surrounding area was loud drunk or anything they all were just trying to hear eachother at their own tables in a very compact and stuffy environment. We are both just gone 30 so... Maybe it's hitting us hard but I feel the same experience would be met in a fairly rough pub that would let you fall in with a bag of chips. The 4 tile decor of the ship that I was in eye view from my seat was very beautiful however. I pointed it out to my partner during the frequent "I can't hear you so I'll nod and change conversation" moments.
Food: The food wasn't bad. It wasn't Spanish but it wasn't bad. The portion sizes are shocking for it's price. Shameful even. The cost of living in Ireland isn't easy and for a business with a fully functional kitchen it's worse! I get that. However, we ordered Patata Brava, not Patata salsa. Brava sauce is a spicy sauce. This sauce was tomato but tasteless. Tomato sauce (red sauce) would have been a better suit. At least then the vinegary hit would have had some flavor. The stuffed jalapenos are not stuffed jalapenos. They are cheese infused with jalapenos rolled in breadcrumbs and deep fried. Served on top of mayo. Mayo, not even alioli? You can literally buy that in Dublin online for a inexpensive price. The Gambas was grand not grainy or anything. The chorizo in red wine was very nice. So it's great to know frying meat in oil is a specialty. I particularly liked the chorizo as it gave the spice that was missing in the brava and it softened the stale taste from the bread offered with the Gambas. The pimientos de padron (new to the menu) are not pimientos de padron. I appreciate the effort as many Spanish restaurants can not find these peppers as they are very expensive and very much in demand. These large full of seed peppers however are a very embarrassing attempt from a Spanish restaurant. (In my opinion)
This is been said, I believe your head chef needs to address the menu costing for this establishment because just... Wow .. the salsa for example could be exchanged with a pretty decent brava for a very minimal labour cost. (Less than 5 minutes for a good batch of God dam good brava) and possibly less costing in blended tomatoes used for sandwiches.
My partner had a coke and I had a glass. I had a glass of Pinot. It was fine, but more acidic than what I would expect. More along the lines of a sav than a Pinot? Thank God I didn't go for a light body red or ask for a recommendation. I would probably have cried laughing at what would have been offered to me given the whole experience
€59 for a very bad service, small portions of 5 tapas that does not resemble Spanish food, awful atmosphere, a glass of poor wine and a warm coke. I had to say to my partner to just go to the bar and pay as no-one came to us with the bill or near us to ask for the bill We did not tip.. as you can imagineshaunak526

June 5, 2022So my wife, my MIL, And MIL Friend all went to the Grapevine for dinner. And all I have to say is You've Gotta Eat Here.
So to drink... read more everyone had the Sangria except for me, they all loved the Sangria said it was very good, but very sweet. I had the Kopperberg Cider they added raspberries and lime to it it was delicious.
We just ordered multiple Tapas to have for dinner and split them between the 4 of us we had the Chicken Skewers, Steak Skewers, Meatballs, Shrimp, button Mushrooms, Calamari, Rocket and Pear Salad, Chorizo and Green Chili Potatoes, and the four cheese quesidella. Then for Desert we had Sticky Toffee Pudding and the Cheesecake.
All the Tapas were fantastic, so full of flavor, the sauce was delicious on everything, the food was prepared quickly and everything was so tasty. Then the Desert the Sticky Toffee Pudding was really tasty not sweet or anything, soft and moist. The cheesecake had lots of flavor and was delicious.
There were 3 Staff on the floor, but they split the load and kept up, we were getting checked on regularly to ensure that we still had stuff to drink and we still had enough food.
Would highly recommend, also would recommend that you book ahead as we watched as people were turned away.

December 13, 2020There are wine bottles on display everywhere and you might hope to get some decent wine there.
But it was a disappointment and made worse by thick small glasses... read more any wine lover would only drink water from. Even for the red there was no appropriate glass.
And when I asked the waiter if he has any different glasses, he replied that there were only the ones on the table in an unfriendly way. This though there were many different glasses hanging above the bar. Apparently just for decoration same as the wine bottles.
I would have risked a bottle of Rioja Reserve for 35 Euros even after the disappointmenting two glasses I had so far, but certainly not without some sort of decent glass!
The food was good, but with this lack of any wine culture yet again it was a big disappointment. This is certainly no wine bar in spite of the impression that they try to give.438gerhards

Loved this place. LOVED it. Will definitely be back. Starting with the handy online booking with really quick confirmation. Then the ambiance and staff were great. But the star of... read more the place is the food. We got 6 different tapas dishes. All totally excellent. Best ones were the one with the cube potatoes, paprika and chorizo and then the one with the duck and prawns was so good. Then desserts were sublime. Would go back to Kilkenny just to go here.

March 1, 2020My friend and I left the grapevine content, full, and in great spirits! We ordered approx 7 things from the menu to share and every dish was tasty. I think... read more that this place will suit picky eaters (potatas bravad or 4 cheese quesadilla for you...maybe) as well as those that are more adventurous (try the black pudding with pear!) which is ideal for groups with different tastes in food. Wine was by the glass or the bottle, and the desert menu was traditional and beautiful. Warm atmosphone with music, and the most friendly and attentive staff! I'll be back 🙂 More

Something wrong with the place if you go for a burger after - I. Decor was OK... cheap in a good meaning - like in a Mexico road restaurant or in a small pueblo in Southern Spain.
II. Food... they should learn A... read more LOT about tapas... A visit to Spain will make no harm. I am not saying that it was bad, but it was far from good, and portions are pathetic. The best part of the meal came in a jar... it was Sangria.
III. Service... OK'ish. Considering that your waiter/waitress is about to do his/her leaving cert in two years, there are many things that can go forgiven in a chipper/take away. However, for the price I paid I would have expected something better; the owner should perhaps send invest in training all of them on waiting tables?
Last Saturday my good missus prepared a tapas for our friends - and THAT was tapas.titek76
November 17, 2022Fantastic selection of tapas and wines. Every dish we ordered was brilliant. The prices are very reasonable and they have a great early bird offer of 3 tapas and a... read more house wine for €20. The decor is very nice also it is warm and bright. The waitstaff were very attentive but a bit high strung even though when we came there was only one other small group sat in the restaurant. It’s as if they know the night ahead will be busy so they panic about giving away tables. It makes people feel very unwelcome when you make them stand there for a 5 minutes while looking at a clip board and then point to a certain table and say you can have this but you must give it back no later than x time. Just put on the door reservation only or keep a section of the restaurants for walk ins and when it’s full don’t take anymore! Strange altogether the energy comes off very nervous and assertive at the same time. If they get that issue sorted they’ll be golden.
